F.A.T.A.L. was created as a prevention program for ages 15 to 20 to teach the consequences of motor vehicle crashes..  This program is run by skilled paramedics and law enforcement officers who use their experience to provide a graphic perspective.

Many young adults knowingly or unknowingly participate in aggressive driving, fail to wear a seat belt, drive while being intoxicated or are careless or inattentive operators of a motor vehicle.  This program combines the use of photos of road side markers in addition to graphic photos of actual accident scenes, 911 tapes, news articles and personal presentations by family members and friends to enforce the consequences of these actions.

Did you know:

  • 16 year old drivers have the highest rate of involvement in fatal crashes.
  • More than 1/3 of all deaths ages 15-20 resulted from motor vehicle crashes.
  • In 2000, more than 1/3 of the youth motor vehicle fatalities involved alcohol.  More than 2/3 of the youth motor vehicle occupant fatalities did not use a seat belt or motorcycle helmet.

The following tips will help you to avoid becoming the next victim:

  • Buckle up each and every time you get into a car — whether you are a driver or a passenger.
  • Drive defensively and be alert to other motorists on the roadway.
  • If you are a passenger in a car that is being operated dangerously, have the courage to get out!
  • If you or someone you know has been drinking or using drugs, NEVER get into their car.
  • Pull over when using a cell phone.

The F.A.T.A.L. Organization along with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office would like to express deep gratitude to those families and individuals that have provided support in the development and presentation of this program.
